As the President of Hike Nova Scotia, it is my pleasure to extend our invitation to attend the next Annual International Meeting of the SIA-IAT (Sentier International des Appalaches – International Appalachian Trail) that Nova Scotia will host to mark our entry into this high profile trail project.  We will be meeting at the Highland Heights Inn in Iona, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from Thursday, September 20th to Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 and I personally invite you to join us.

The SIA-IAT is North America’s only long distance international hiking trail, and it extends the famous Appalachian Trail that travels from Georgia to Maine into Canada.  It is approximately 2400 km (1490 mi) in length and includes Maine, New Brunswick, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.  Now, Hike Nova Scotia is leading the formation of a Nova Scotia Chapter.  The SIA-IAT in Nova Scotia will connect scenic, historic and recreational areas and will pass through wilderness, rural and urban centres.  We believe the trail will offer exciting tourism and recreation opportunities for our province and wherever possible, we plan to support trail initiatives already under way.

Please join us for a weekend of fun, local culture, geological and historical presentations, and plenty of Nova Scotia hospitality.  Everyone is welcome and we’d be very appreciative if you’d support this event by posting our registration information on your website and/or by forwarding this email to your friends, affiliations and organizations.

Yours truly
Jim Vance, President
Hike Nova Scotia Society
