International Appalachian Trail
Campsite Plaques
During the 2008 Annual Spring Cleanup of the Maine section of the IAT/SIA a bronze plaque was placed on the inside, back wall of each campsite lean-to along the IAT/SIA route in Maine. These plaques identify the owner of the land on which the Campsite is located, the date of construction of the lean-to and the donor of the lean-to.

The placement of these plaques is an opportunity to recognize the landowner that allowed the campsite to be located on their land and express our appreciation to them. It also allows us to recognize the wonderful contribution that Katahdin Log Homes and Ward Log Homes have made to our successful Campsite building program. The seven Campsites, spaced about a good day's hike apart along the entire Maine section of the trail, have all been donated by these two companies and built by IAT/SIA Maine Chapter volunteers. One more Campsite will be constructed in the Wassataquoik Valley in 2008 to complete the campsite building program on the Maine section. The lean-tos are all built with white cedar logs which should require minimum future maintenance.

Pictures of the plaques and a couple of pictures taken during the 2008 Annual Spring Cleanup(including a picture of Herb Hartman our Campsite Coordinator) follow this news note.
