All the chapters of the IAT/SIA were well represented at the ALDHA 2009 gathering by Dick Anderson and Walter Anderson. Dick and Walter combined to complete the ten hour drive from Yarmouth, Maine to Gettysburg and return over the Columbus Day holiday weekend.
Of the 777 ALDHA members, 441 attended the gathering.
During the entire gathering, they staffed the IAT/SIA information table and distributed free printed materials supplied by the various chapters including some nice materials sent to us from our friends in Scotland.
They also made three presentations (see picture) that were well attended. There was considerable interest in the possible extension of the IAT/SIA to the British Isles.
Walter and Dick hosted the IAT/SIA Thru-hikers reunion and presented the Mountain Hardwear backpack to 2009 thru-hiker, Tom Cruson “Tank”. It should be noted that “Tank” is the first IAT/SIA, Katahdin to Crow Head Thru-hiker, to include the 30 mile “East of Baxter” park section and the 150 miles of new trail on Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island, in his hike. They also met with thru-hiker, John Calhoun, "Mother Nature's Son".
