An update to Ed Garvey's classic, Appalachian Hiker: Adventure of a Lifetime. Ed first hiked in the early 70's, and became famous for garnering goodies such as food, lodging and trips from people along the way, but in a very professional manner. This mode of getting favors is called "Garvey"-ing, now changed to the popular hiking art - "Yogi"-ing.
