The Newfoundland&Labrador trail opening took place in conjunction with the International IAT/SIA Annual International meeting held in Cow Head, Newfoundland. That meeting was attended by; Dave Rand, Will Richard, Dick Anderson, Don Hudson and Earl Raymond, all members of the Maine Chapter IAT/SIA Board of Directors. The New Brunswick IAT/SIA Chapter was also well represented by President Bob Melville, his wife Ann, Denise Zyveniuk, Ruth Bulmer and other Board members.
The meeting was a great success. We got to visit Gros Morne and L'Anse aux Meadows(the only confirmed Viking habitation in North America). We ate lots of cod saw lots of caribou and had some wonderful fellowship with our counterparts in the Canadian Provinces. Newfoundland certainly has a great hiking tradition and some really enthusiastic hikers who are committed to making the IAT/SIA a successful project in their province.
