L.L. Bean’s Spring Sports Expo
The International Appalachian Trail/Sentier International des Appalaches (IAT/SIA) was well represented at the 2009 L.L. Bean’s Spring Sports Expo. This year the Spring Sports Expo focused on camping, hiking, fishing, hunting biking and paddling. The intent of the event was to provide customers with an opportunity to gear up for the upcoming Spring/Summer outdoor season.
Joining the IAT/SIA display in the main store were other nonprofit outdoor groups, such as the Appalachian Mountain Club, Leave No Trace, Maine Huts and Trails and Portland Trails. Members of the Maine council of the IAT/SIA that staffed the display table were Dick Anderson, Walter Anderson, Loren Johnston, Dave Jones, Robert Lemiux and Anja Whittington. A large number of customers, including Canadian visitors, stopped by the table to obtain information about the trail, as well as future trail development. Many of the customers who stopped by were surprised to learn that the trail was already established and a number of these individuals expressed interest in the trail in the near future.
