IAT GREETING – THRU HIKERS 2009
IAT/SIA members Dick Anderson, Walter Anderson, Earl Raymond and Herb Hartman greeted IAT/SIA hikers Paul Duffey of Massachusetts and Tom Crusan of New York this Friday, May 22, at L.L. Bean’s and McGritty McDuff Pub, Freeport,Maine.
Paul Duffey, trail name-“No Name” plans an ambitious north-south trek on the Eastern Continental Trail, including the IAT/SIA, from Crow Head, Newfoundland/Labrador to Key West Florida. Tom Crusan, trail name-“Tank” takes a south-north direction from Mt. Katahdin to Crow Head. Both begin early this week and expect to cross paths on the IAT/SIA.
For about two hours, Dick and Earl gave both men detailed instructions with emphasis and maps. Tom, eager to start out, departed for Baxter Park, but not without a photo opportunity.
Mac McKeever, L.L. Bean’s Senior Public Relations Representative met with and commended Paul on his commitment and wished him a wonderful journey and experience. Mac also presented Paul with a letter of recognition and a few tokens of L.L. Bean support- a headlamp and portable camera mount.
The rest of the afternoon was immersed in convivial talk, plans, “suds”, and snacks at McGritty McDuff’s Pub. The Maine IAT/SIA group sent them off with best wishes and good hiking. Both promised to keep IAT/SIA appraised of their progress.
Respectfully submitted,
Walter Anderson
