Photographer for the International Appalachian Trail (IAT) Will Richard of Georgetown, Maine, was recently notified of a three-year appointment with the Smithsonian Institution – Arctic Studies Center.  This appointment was made on the basis of six seasons of field photography and archaeological work with the ASC on a Basque site on the Lower North Shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in the Province of Québec, known as the “Gateways Project”. Will maintains a synopsis of the Gateways on the Smithsonian’s website. With a PhD in geography, he also collaborates with the ASC on Greenland including the Greenland Culture Festival which was held in 2005 at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington.  Other related field work includes an annual field trip to either Greenland or to the Canadian Arctic where he works with outfitters and government. He will continue to reside in Maine. An exhibit of Will’s work will be held at Bowdoin College in 2007over the months of February through March and book is in progress. And, of course, there is continuing field work with the IAT
