LUNKSOOS CAMPSITE OCT. 20/21, 2007
The construction of the IAT Lunksoos campsite was completed on October 21/24 by IAT volunteers (Lunksoos Brigade); Torrey Sylvester, Don Hudson, Will Richard, Eric Horschak, Herb Hartman, and Walter Anderson. The “Brigade” met at Shin Pond Village at about 11:00 AM and led by Torrey and his loaded truck, we traveled the 18 miles on the Messer Pond Rd. to arrived at the Lunksoos campsite at 12:00P. Our work was delayed as the logs for the roof line were not pre-cut for purlins and roofline. Progress was slow until Herb unleashed his chain saw (The Beast) and made up for lost time. At dusk all cuts had been made and the center purlin was in place.
A sumptuous supper with copious quantities of spaghetti, meat sauce, garlic bread, and beer was prepared and consumed around a bright and warming campfire. Will succeeded in raising the Red Sox – Cleveland game which, along with Torrey’s limericks, provided our evening entertainment.
A beautiful fall Sunday morning began early with a bountiful and delicious breakfast skillfully prepared by Don Hudson. Working swiftly the “Brigade” installed the remaining purlins and Eric and Don completed the roof. The shelter was completed at about noon and we all reluctantly departed from this sublime setting for home.
